Also consider joining the Campus/ Community Bike Program Coordinator Listserv to network and correspond with others who are running programs or in the process of setting one up. Chicago-based non-profit organization recycling bikes locally and
delivering them to communities in need at low cost to provide sustainable
development within their communities. They've shipped thousands of bikes
and parts to Nicaragua, Cuba, Kenya, and Ghana.
• Pedals for Progress, bicycle recycler
and redistributor around the world to developing countries.
• Community Cycling Center, Portland, OR, runs the impressive Create a Commuter Program.
• Recycle-A-Bicycle, Brooklyn, NY. Recycle-a-Bicycle is an innovative, fun youth training and environmental education initiative that has taken root in New York City public schools and respected after-school youth programs. RAB promotes everyday bicycle use, and it is a great place to learn bicycle mechanics, interact with positive, forward-thinking NYC youth. Our retail shops are the place to find that city bike you need.
• Bicycle Transportation Alliance, Portland, OR
The Bicycle Transportation Alliance (BTA) is a non-profit membership organization working to promote bicycling and improve bicycling conditions in Oregon and SW Washington. Since 1990, the BTA has worked in partnership with citizens, businesses, community groups, government agencies and elected officials to create communities where people can meet their daily transportation needs on a bike.
